40s Fashion Calendar - January
Just in time, here's my effort for the 40s Fashion Calendar January project.
In the spirit of Make Do and Mend, I constructed my brooch entirely out of things I already had in the house. I didn't have any felt, so instead I used some craft foam which I happened to have available in some squares of approximately the right size. The flowers came from all kinds of places; my mum and I always try to hang onto things that would be useful for crafts since we like to make a lot of things. I also don't have a hot glue gun, so I glued the flowers in place using craft glue, and I didn't have a brooch pin so I fixed a safety pin to the back using a little piece of ribbon which I again glued in place. I'm not sure how well the pin will hold up, but I'm sure I can always mend or replace it later on. I only made one brooch, partially because I only had enough bits to make one, and partially because I don't have a muff or fabric handbag to pin the second one to.
And here's what my outfit looks like complete with the brooch - doesn't it add some lovely colour for a dreary winter's day?
I'm really happy with the brooch especially since I made it out of basically nothing. I've definitely started how I mean to go on! I love making things and it's even better when it's not expensive. It makes such a difference to have the extra colour on my coat, I think.
Let me know in the comments if you've also had a go at making the brooch, I'd love to see your results!

That is such a pretty, vibrant brooch. I feel like the world is starving for colour right now and love that us stylish lasses can add a bit back to it with crafts and outfits featuring vivid, cheerful hues like this.

I think your brooch turned out really well, and it does add a great spot of color to your outfit. It's amazing what just a little thing like that, up close to your face, does to brighten everything up. Great job making something lovely out of virtually nothing.

Your brooch is so cute!!! Good on finding all the things in your house!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on mine right now, but as I look through my stuff, I keep realizing I don't have some things. I'll link you when I finish though!

I was lucky I was able to improvise on some of the things I was missing! I hope you can find what you need.
DeleteI love the brooch and your outfit.I am no good at making things, very frustrating. xx
ReplyDeleteYou could totally make this one, it's easy and can be fixed together entirely with hot glue. There is no real skill or artistic talent necessary :)
DeleteI did want to do this DIY too; but couldn't find the flowers I had stashed away for crafting! *argh* I ended up completely improvising my own felt flower corsage. Inspired by, but definitely not related to Brittany's DIY. ;D
ReplyDeleteI love how yours turned out ~ very pretty and like you said, such a nice touch of color for your winter coat. ❤

this little flower buquet pin is so pretty! it's a lovely idea to pin it on a wintery fur coat ... fight winter with flowers. love it.
ReplyDeleteWhen people consider custom clothing the primary things that come to mind are t-shirts and baseball caps. But there are several benefits to using custom logo socks that make this the proper apparel choice for any situation, for more information visit here socks for cycling clubs.
