On Saturday I got to go to Kedleston at War, a home front reenactment event held at Kedleston Hall. If you're interested in seeing some photos of the hall itself, you can see my post from the last time I visited, here.

This was a much smaller reenactment event than most that I've been to, but it was nonetheless enjoyable and I was even fortunate enough to join in with the tea dance and brush up on my barn dancing. You should see me dancing the Gay Gordons with my mum, I imagine it's quite the sight.

I was re-reading old posts from Vixen Vintage the other day and stumbled across the following photo - the dress that the lady is wearing looks quite a bit like my own, I think, but her hair is more fabulous than mine.

My previous post on reenactment at Papplewick is here.

I'm a little behind with uploading these photos - I was saving the dress for another event and didn't want to show the photos until after that. Since that now doesn't seem to be going ahead, I figured it was okay to get a post together. It's been nice for me to look through them as I'm feeling more than ready to start going to events again for this year. Most don't start for at least a couple more months though, so I will just have to make do with looking through my photos for a while instead.

I seem to have been having somewhat of a bad hair day that day, and I'm no longer too sure about that hat. I have already started planning outfits for various events this year though, so I am definitely looking forward to it.

I didn't take too many photos at Papplewick as with it being another fairly local one, a lot of the same re-enactment groups were there as have been at the other events I have blogged about (Crich, part 1, 2, 3; Rufford Abbey; Sherwood Through The Ages). I'm not sure whether or not I would go to Papplewick again, as firstly it was a lot smaller than the other events I've been to, and secondly, I didn't feel the standard of the re-enactment was as high (some parts were a bit spoilt for me by some people from re-enactment groups carrying modern supermarket carrier bags etc).

And now, onward to the photos:

Above: part of the fully working pumping station. It's all gorgeous Victorian machinery housed in a beautiful room with stained glass windows and gold frescos (just seen at the far right hand side of the picture). It's suuuuper quiet and very ornate, considering it was never meant to be seen by the public.

Steps up to the upper levels of the pump house. My heels kept getting stuck in the holes!

I had quite a few photos done by various different photographers so hope to have some of those to put up or link to in the not too distant future.

This weekend I went to Sherwood Through The Ages, a multi-period re-enactment event not too far away from where I live. It's the first time I've done a multi-period event since I started going to re-enactment events on a regular basis. I really enjoyed it though, and I'd definitely go again.

They'd set up the event so you could walk round and see each re-enactment group in chronological order starting with an Iron Age settlement and eventually ending up with a mid 1980s-1990s armed forces group.

My brother was back from uni for the weekend, so this time we decided to both dress up. Since my brother doesn't normally get involved in the dressing-up side of things and therefore doesn't own any really appropriate clothing, we managed to cobble together an acceptable 1950s greaser outfit for him out of things he already owns. Of course this was something I felt I couldn't miss out on, so I dressed to match. It ended up being a pretty cold day though, so most of my outfit ended up being hidden under my jacket.

We had lots of fun pretending to be all mean and moody (check out those sneers!)

As we walked round, I got very excited and kept saying "ooh, this is the best one so far". A lot of years ago I got quite interested in the idea of re-enactment and almost joined a medieval (or thereabouts) group. I wish I could remember a few more details about it, but I think I just liked the idea of being able to sword fight.

All hail King John!

These looked like they were having an absolute blast - by far the merriest re-enactors we saw all day, and they seemed to be chatting with each other in the language of the period. Verily!

Sorry that the above photos aren't all in chronological order! And that I can't remember which group they are all from. I would totally love to get involved in some of this earlier history re-enactment though; it looks very exciting!

I finally got hold of the photos my mum took of me while we were at Crich. Unfortunately, some of them were... less than flattering... so I've picked three of the best.

I also had my photo taken by several photographers, two of which gave me their card so that I can see the photos. They aren't available yet, but I will keep checking back on the photographers' websites until  they are.

I don't actually dance although I would love to learn. Quite a few of the people there did know how though, so I got a bit of a go anyway.
